1. Introduction
Snapshots and this website are built on open-source software. This page lists those components and their licences, as the attribution and notice requirements of those licences ask for. The list covers the software actually distributed to you: the iOS app and this website.
2. General terms
2.1 Licence hierarchy
The open-source licence governs its component. Our terms do not override or restrict rights granted by an open-source licence; where the two conflict for a component, the open-source licence prevails for that component.
2.2 Source code offer
For components under a copyleft licence that requires source availability (GPL, LGPL, MPL), source code is available on request at hello@digitalfreedom.co.za. We fulfil requests within 30 days, and the offer stands for 3 years from the last distribution or for as long as the licence requires. No component currently listed here is under such a licence — the offer stands in case one is added.
2.3 Your obligations
If you redistribute any component, you are responsible for keeping to its licence: retaining copyright notices and licence texts, providing source where required, and maintaining attribution.

5. The backend
The Snapshots backend runs on open-source software as well — Quarkus, Hibernate, Liquibase, PostgreSQL and others. It runs on our servers and is not distributed to you, so the distribution-triggered notice duties of those licences do not arise. We list it here for completeness rather than because a licence requires it.

7. Jurisdictional notes
- European Union: open-source licence compliance is required under EU copyright law (Directive 2001/29/EC). The Software Directive (2009/24/EC) permits decompilation for interoperability. The Cyber Resilience Act (Regulation (EU) 2024/2847) imposes obligations on commercial products that incorporate open-source components — including maintaining a list of them, which is part of why this page exists.
- Germany: the UrhG governs copyright in software, and German courts have enforced open-source licences.
- United States: open-source licences are enforceable as copyright licences under 17 U.S.C.
- Elsewhere: local copyright law governs; the licences are generally recognised.

This page is updated when a component is added, removed or upgraded. The versions above are those of the current release. The “Last updated” date at the top reflects the latest revision.
